Hair-Nets, Chocolate and Volunteers! Oh My!

Last Thursday, YWCA staff Kaitlin Bartik and AmeriCorps member Samantha Tripoli attended Flash Volunteer‘s Spring Reception at Theo Chocolate. Flash Volunteer, an amazing movement created purely from a volunteer base, “seeks to build community and increase volunteerism in Seattle through the creation of a sustainable, user-friendly online platform to connect, inspire and mobilize volunteers to effect meaningful change on a neighborhood level.” At the spring reception, Flash Volunteer unveiled their new website and iPhone app, and wooed us all with their passion, insight and fabulous food selection.

As part of the fun, Theo Chocolate organized tours of the factory for all attendees of the spring reception. As Kaitlin and Samantha carefully fit their wisps of hair into the very “fashionable” hair-nets, they couldn’t help but laugh at the irony of the situation. After begging countless volunteers at YWCA Angeline’s Center for Homeless Women during lunch service to pose on camera while donning hair-nets and aprons, they figured it was time to join in the fun.

As they tasted the scrumptious chocolate and learned about the fabulous new platform for Seattle-based volunteers to utilize, they couldn’t help but feel extremely excited for Flash Volunteer to launch their newly revamped version of their entrepreneurial strategy.

Cheers to Flash Volunteer, and to the wonderful volunteers of YWCA Angeline’s!
